The Best Place For Cocktails in Taipei

In addition to some speakeasy bars we mentioned before, in this post we will take a look at more popular bars in Taipei. We hope that you’ll enjoy these bars we recommend to you.

▎Placebo – Take a break at Chinese Inn

The name “Placebo” derives from “Placebo effect”, It’s a substance or treatment of no intended therapeutic value, a placebo may be given to a person in order to deceive the recipient into thinking that it is an active treatment.

JUST LIKE ALCOHOL.

It won’t change anything but can give you a way to feel better.

Placebo’s eastern culture style is different from the other bars in loft style, the idea of the interior comes from the Chinese-Style inn in the old movie, you will be surprised that entering a totally different world in the bustle modern city.

In addition to the featured decor, the cocktails here are also special, every kind of cocktails have their own unique name and even sometimes you can’t tell what it made by. Besides classic cocktails, they also have some special flavor of traditional Chinese medicine, Taiwanese snacks or fruit. Especially they serve cocktails with the Chinese teapot instead of the wine glass.

If you are hungry, you can try “Lu Wei”-the famous traditional Taiwanese food.

▎MQ [ Marquee Taipei ] – Indulging in Jazz Night

Marquee is located nearby Taipei101, after visiting the famous landmark, you can come by for a drink in a few steps.

After passing through the entrance, I can’t help but marvel with the gorgeous interior which has modern red sofas and high ceilings with crystal chandeliers hanging over the bar, in this overwhelmingly romantic vibe is totally suitable for dating.

The bartender is friendly and talkative, he once represents Taiwan to attend the international competition, his signature old-fashion cocktail is absolutely fabulous.

In addition to this, they have the live jazz band show on every Tuesday, which is really impressive and I’m sure to come again.

Intention – Don’t forget your original intention

It’s a bar without the menu, without limited, without minimum and even service fee, all they have is everything you want.

The owner of Intention is also the main bartender, he is kind and loves to talk with everyone, just tell him what you prefer, then you’ll get your own specialty. Sometimes, he would guess how your mood be like then make a cocktail for you, that’s really interesting!

Just like a magician, he can make it happen no matter what you ask, all you have to do is getting a little tipsy on a fantastic night.

Woo Taipei – Welcome Home

In the day, WooTP is a quiet cafe, but when the sky is dark it turns into a popular bar attracting crowd people every night.

I love WooTP’s layout of red brick walls, old leather sofas, wooden tables and chairs, they even create a tipsy environment with yellow light, which makes people feel nostalgic and warm in the old British atmosphere, not only with the variety of classic cocktails but also with delicious meals.

Their bartender Mark Huang wins Champion of 2011 DIAGEO World Class Global. On top of that, they awarded the 2016 top 50 best bars in Asia (ranked 20th).

WooTP makes you feel like home and you can totally relax after work all day long.

There are a few things you must know:

  • These popular bars usually filled with the crowd on the weekend so make a reservation in advance is necessary.
  • The legal drinking age in Taiwan is over 18 years old.
  • Some of these bars probably wouldn’t check your ID/Passport, but you can bring a valid ID/Passport with you just in case.
  • The last train of Taipei MRT is around 12 AM-midnight, same to buses, so please don’t drive under the influence, instead of taking a taxi or uber, even choose the hotel nearby would be good.

  1. Hey man!

    What a wonderful guide!
To be honest, the first thing I like to do when I visit a new country is to explore the nightlife and the bars.
I’ll definitely give your list a try when I come to Taipei!

Hey Chas, thank you for this great article. I have plans to visit Taipei this summer with my friends, and we won’t miss this for sure. But we also won’t be able to visit them all for a short period of time, so can you maybe recommend me like two from this list that is best for absolutely new visitors that never been in Taipei before?

  3. Great content, I really like reading post like this, because it’s so easy to read and much more easier to understand. I love the pictures that you post. I have never been in Taipei. But for sure someday I will come to visit and I will visit this places.

  5. Hi Chas, thank you for sharing a guide to best cocktail bars in Taipei.

Just reading your guide makes me want to come to Taipei… I think next winter when I go to Asia for my winter break I will visit Taipei and enjoy the cocktails in some of these bars!

  6. Thank you, that was a great list of bars. Intention sounds interesting, I´d like the bartender to guess my mood and make me a matching drink! The Fourplay Cuisine´s fake drug and country name drinks also caught my attention.

I´ve never been to Taiwan, but I´ve been to other East Asian countries; Japan, China and South Korea. When I went to a language school in Japan, there were many students from Taiwan, and they were all really friendly and hearty. I absolutely want to visit Taiwan at some point!

  7. This is great information! You`ve given great recommendations!
We`re planning to go visit Taipei this coming summer and i would like to try all your recommendations – but i`m really excited to check the Fourplay cuisine. Their drinks look great in pictures!
Thanks for sharing this! All the best!

  8. Wow. Very thorough, and detailed list of bars and nightclubs in Taipei. Extremely helpful to include directions, hours of operation, and even the website. The next time I am in Taipei, I will consider some of these night spots, and I will have to bookmark this article so I can refer to it. Nicely put together. Thanks, Tom

  9. I would love to visit Fourplay Cuisine, It seems like you can get a lot of different types of cocktails. I am from Mexico, so I wonder what cocktails with Tequila they offer. Also, Woo Taipei seems like a solid choice. I plan to travel the world at some time of my life, and Taipei is on my list.

  10. Some of these places look amazing.

I would have to be careful with those cocktails. You think you are fine and they go down like orange juice – then BAM! You’re drunk as a skunk. 😀

Although not really on my list – never considered it, Taipei does look amazing.

You must have had fun researching this one.

    Thanks,
    Michael.

  11. First off I want to say great blog! I had a quick question which
I’d like to ask if you don’t mind. I was curious to find out how you center
yourself and clear your head before writing. I’ve had difficulty clearing my
thoughts in getting my thoughts out. I do enjoy writing but it just seems
like the first 10 to 15 minutes are lost just trying to figure
out how to begin. Any suggestions or tips? Thank you!
