Where is Yehliu Geopark

Yehliu Geopark is located in Shimen District, New Taipei City, Taiwan, and is a natural protected area famous for its unique rock formations.

This area covers about 1.3 hectares and features a diverse and unique geological landscape formed by long-term weathering and erosion of the rocks.

How to Get There

There are various transportation options available to get to Yehliu Geopark.

If you prefer public transportation, you can take the following ways:

  1. Take the MRT Red Line (Tamsui -Xinyi Line) to Tamsui Station [R28], then take bus 862 to Yehliu stop, with a bus every 30 minutes.
  2. Take the Kuo-Kuang Bus 1815 from Taipei Main Station to Yehliu stop, with a bus every 20 minutes.
  3. Take the train to Keelung Railway Station, then take bus 790 to Yehliu stop, with a bus every 15 minutes.

Yehliu Geopark is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and in summer (July and August), it is open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

What to Do in Yehliu Geopark

Once you arrive at Yehliu Geopark, you will be amazed by the stunning geological landscape before you.

Here, you can wander among the rocks and admire various unique rock formations, while getting a close-up view of the special structures and patterns on the rocks.

One of the most famous rocks in the park is the “Queen’s Head,” which looks like the profile of an elegant queen, with her hairstyle, forehead, nose, and chin clearly visible from a distance.

The “Cute Princess,” with a ponytail-like shape, has taken the baton from the Queen’s Head and become a rising star in the Yehliu Scenic Area.

In addition, there are many unique rock formations, such as the “Fairy Shoe”,”Candlestick Rock,” and “Mushroom Rock,” which are excellent photography subjects for enthusiasts.

At Yehliu Geopark, you can stroll along the wooden walkways in the park and admire the beautiful scenery from different angles as the rock formations change.

Walk along the coastline and listen to the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks, and feel the power and beauty of nature.

If you are interested in geology, in addition to paying for guided tours, there are also information signs and exhibition halls in the park, which introduce the unique geological landscape and ecological environment of the area, allowing you to gain a deeper understanding of the natural beauty of this region.

There are also rest areas and restrooms set up in the park, providing visitors with a place to rest and use basic facilities. In addition, there are also snack vendors in the park, allowing you to taste the local cuisine while enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Yehliu Ocean World is a theme park full of marine life in northern Taiwan, featuring a variety of marine life displays, interactive activities, sea lion performances, touch pool areas, and environmental education, allowing visitors to get up close and personal with the marine world and learn more about marine life and conservation.

Wanli Camel’s Hump(萬里駱駝峰)

The Wanli Camel’s Hump is a small independent coastal mountain that looks like a camel facing the sea.

When you reach the peak of the mountain, you will find a fortress in a mountain cave. Upon entering the cave, you can admire the beautiful scenery of the sea and the coastal areas from inside out. There are many irregular arched windows that allow you to clearly see distant fishing boats, Keelung Island, and even the waves on the sea. 

This unique view is definitely worth seeing.

If you visit Wanli Camel’s Hump, don’t miss the opportunity to climb to the top of this small mountain. The scenery here is very charming and definitely worth a visit.

Jinbaoli Old Street(金山老街)

Jinbaoli Old Street is located in the Jiinshan District of New Taipei City in Taiwan. With a history of over 300 years, it is a neighborhood that has preserved the traces of its formr prosperity and is full of retro charm.

When visiting JJinbaoli Old Street, besides admiring the old architectural style, you can also taste the local cuisine.

There are many popular foods in Jinbaoli Old Street, including duck meat, oyster fritters, sweet potato with red flesh, and taro balls.

How I Plan My Trip to Yehliu Geopark

When planning a trip to Yehliu Geopark, I usually check the weather first, as it affects the comfort and scenery of the visit.

I bring sun hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect myself from the sun, and wear comfortable clothes and shoes to explore the park freely.
